QR Code Best Practices for Print & Marketing (2025)

Utility · 5 min read · Published March 2025

How to design QR codes that actually get scanned — size, contrast, placement, error correction.

Size matters

Minimum print size: 2×2 cm for close scanning, 5×5 cm for posters, 10×10 cm for billboards.

Contrast is everything

Dark foreground on light background scans best. Never invert. Never place on busy photos.

Leave quiet space

Keep at least 4 modules of empty space on all four sides.

Error correction

Level H (30%) allows up to 30% damage. Level M (15%) is the default.

Always test

Test on iOS and Android, and on the actual printed material if possible.
